Where did the name come from?
Commune can mean different things to different people.
To some, it is a community of people sharing living spaces, values, and beliefs. To others, it means to converse with profound intensity and intimacy, to more people still, it denotes wine regions.
To us it is all of this and more. It is a shared idea consuming quality wines at a price you will be happy with. Talk to one of the team about wines and you will understand the link with intense and profound conversations. From all these threads, we call ourselves Commune.
What sets us apart
Boutique, hand-picked products
Our purpose is to champion small independent, family owned producers with products hand-picked by our team to bring a truly unique wine offering to the Perth market. We are always on the hunt for that quirky, unusual grape variety or winemaking technique and keep our finger on the pulse of the latest developments in the world of wine. Our greatest compliment is when a customer says “I haven’t seen that before”!
The Experience
Apart from being extremely passionate about what we do, everyone that works at Commune is either a winemaker or has studied wine (to WSET level 3). We are truly passionate about what wine represents and where the wine scene is heading. Hopefully our shelves will be full of wines you haven’t tried before but don’t worry, our team will answer all of your questions and make sure you take home a great bottle of booze or two. Or maybe even more.
Community Minded
One of the reasons we chose Maylands for the location of the store was for the strong sense of community that abounds in the town. We regularly work with other local businesses on collaborative projects and we love how many of our neighbours drop in on a weekly basis to say hi. It’s important to us to give something back to the community and we always look to support local where we can. Plus some of us even live in the area!
