Why we like it
“Sur Lie” French for “on Lees” (which means on its spent yeast) is a one-off, 1400 bottle iteration from Margaret River stalwarts Westwinds Gin. Barrel aged for 12 months in used Chardonnay barrels borrowed from neighbours Fishbone winery.
This gold medal winning gin (Best Matured gin before you ask) has beautiful floral notes with hints or coriander, lemon and cinnamon myrtle. There is an richness and creaminess in the mouth due to the barrel ageing, but no undue oakiness that can sometimes be present in less experienced gin makers. Would make an ideal present to any gin enthusiast.
