Why we like it

Fourth generation vigneron and Austrian natural winemaking legend Christian Tschida has created this elegant, complex and mineral driven Syrah from his 10 hectares of vines he farms in Burgenland, Austria.

The 30 year old vines were hand harvested, hand de-stemmed and then foot crushed. The juice was fermented using naturally occurring yeast in large, neutral oak foudres before being aged for 24 months. This is unfined, unfiltered natural wine from one of the kings of the natural wine movement in Austria, bottled without sulphur (of course).

There is an earthy, almost smoky element to this wine, it’s primal. Black olives, tobacco and leather give way to plum and blackcurrant. It’s well balanced that’s for sure, the elevated acidity elevates but never completely dominates, the tannins are finely grained and lead into a long, mineral driven finish. This wine is crying out for a roaring fireplace and a steak.
